Soaking in hot springs is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience that also offers some health benefits. According to USA Today, a dip in a hot spring can help “boost blood circulation, reduce stress, and alleviate skin conditions.”
Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, three Colorado hot springs claimed spots on USA Today’s 10Best recent list of the top hot springs in the US.
USA Today’s 10Best is a readers’ choice awards program that spotlights the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do across the country. An expert panel nominates their top picks for each category and readers vote to determine the ten winners.
The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs took first place. Located in southwest Colorado, the Springs Resort is home to about 50 mineral pools. The temperatures range from steaming hot to almost freezing, and guests can enjoy 24-hour access to the pools. In addition to the hot spring pools, the resort’s lodging also offers guests access to unique wellness activities, such as aqua yoga and sound immersion, according to USA Today. Visitors can cool off with a chilly plunge into the San Juan River, which flows right next to the hot pools.
Located on the banks of the Colorado River, Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs ranked fifth. Visitors can soak in 32 pools of varying temperatures at Iron Mountain. The hot springs include an adults-only WorldSprings area with pools inspired by different geothermal waters in Japan, Iceland, Turkey, and other hot springs destinations. There’s also a heart-shaped pool and a family-friendly freshwater pool.
Glenwood Hot Springs Resort ranked tenth on the list. The family-friendly resort, located in Glenwood Springs, has the world’s largest outdoor mineral hot springs pool. The resort has plenty of other fun amenities, including a diving board, swimming lanes, waterslides, a splash pad, mini waterslides, and a zero-depth shaded pool. The hot therapy pool offers jet chairs and water sprays, and the Yampah Mineral Baths have five soaking pools of varying temperatures.
