A 6.2-magnitude earthquake has hit off the west coast of New Zealand. There is no such thing as a tsunami warning.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake occurred shortly after 1 a.m. native time. It was 300 kilometres southwest of Invercargill, New Zealand, and 10 kilometres below the ocean.
Screens in New Zealand described the quake as average. There have been no fast reviews of harm.
USGS later reported a 6.8-magnitude quake in what it referred to as the Macquarie Island area, over 1,200 kilometres northeast of Invercargill at a depth of lower than three miles.
New Zealand, which is dwelling to five million individuals, sits on the “Ring of Hearth,” an arc of seismic faults across the Pacific Ocean the place earthquakes and volcanoes are widespread.
