Apple Event 2025 key highlights: All new ultra-thin iPhone Air debuts alongside Apple iPhone 17, Pro and Pro Max, AirPods Pro 3, Apple Watch Series 11, Watch SE 3 and Watch Ultra 3

Apple’s annual September hardware event arrives today with the company set to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup at Apple Park. The “Awe Dropping” showcase begins at 10:30 PM IST and promises to introduce what could be the most significant iPhone design changes in several years.

The anticipated star of the show is the iPhone 17 Air, and rumours suggest it will measure just 5.5 millimetres thick. To put that in perspective, it would be roughly a third thinner than the current iPhone 16 Pro and even slimmer than the iPhone 6, which previously held the title for Apple’s thinnest phone. This dramatic reduction in thickness comes with expected compromises—the Air is rumoured to feature only a single rear camera and reduced battery capacity compared to other models in the lineup.

Apple appears to be positioning the iPhone 17 Air between its standard and Pro models, creating a new tier focused on portability over performance. This strategy mirrors what the company has done with its MacBook and iPad Air lines, offering a middle-ground option for users who prioritise design over maximum capability.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to receive their first major visual refresh since 2020. Reports suggest these devices will feature redesigned camera systems that extend across much of the phone’s back, moving away from the square camera bump that has defined recent iPhones. Additionally, Apple may switch from the titanium construction introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro back to aluminium, potentially improving heat dissipation and reducing weight.

For the standard iPhone 17, the most significant upgrade could be the addition of ProMotion display technology. This would bring 120Hz refresh rates to non-Pro iPhones for the first time, a feature that has been exclusive to Pro models since 2021.

Beyond iPhones, Apple is expected to refresh its Apple Watch lineup with new Ultra and Series models. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 may gain satellite messaging capabilities, while the Series 11 could add 5G connectivity. The AirPods Pro line, unchanged since 2022, is also rumoured for an update that could include health monitoring features.

Apple is also expected to announce the official release date for iOS 26, and other OS updates for this year that were previewed at the company’s developer conference earlier this year.

We’ll be covering all the announcements live at Times of India.
