A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Alaska on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The tremor occurred around midday, approximately 87 kilometers (54 miles) south of the island town of Sand Point, at a preliminary depth of 20.1 kilometers.
