Everything that happened on day six of the US Open — Ben Shelton retires due to injury, Townsend upsets Andreeva

Featured2 weeks ago4 Views

It’s been a wild 48 hours for Taylor Townsend but she still showed up and handles business on Arthur Ashe tonight, upsetting Mirra Andreeva in straight sets to reach the round of 16 at the U.S. Open for the first time in six years. Here’s what she had to say about the accomplishment.

💬 “I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me over these last 48 hours. It’s bigger than me. It’s about the message. It’s about the representation. It’s about being bold and being able to show up as yourself. And I did that tonight. You guys saw the real Taylor Townsend tonight.”

She was also asked how she will maintain her focus leading up to her next match.

💬 “We’re standing on business on this team so ain’t nothing going to change. I’m going to go in the locker room, get my protein shake, get on the bike, do my rest/recovery. I have double so I hope you guys can come out and support me there but the job is not done. I’m happy with what I did tonight, but we’re standing on business and we continue here in New York.”
