Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a heat warning for Montreal starting on Thursday, and as the city braces for the heat, today is still a hot, hot, hot one.

Mainly sunny skies forecasted for Wednesday with a daytime high of 27°C — but it should feel more like 29°C with the humidex.

Come Thursday, more sunshine and temperatures soaring, it is expected to feel like 40°C with the humidity.

“The combination of high temperatures exceeding 30°C and high humidity levels will give humidex values near 40 during the day,” ECCC said. “The overnight period will be uncomfortable with lows exceeding 20°C.”

The heat warning is expected to be in effect on Thursday into Friday.

“Take action to protect yourself and others,” ECCC said. “Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness. Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.”

Adding to limit direct exposure to the sun and heat and wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.

“Never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle,” the weather agency said. “Check the vehicle before locking to make sure no one is left behind.”
