Several people were detained by federal agents Tuesday after they showed up for hearings at immigration courthouses in San Francisco and Concord.
The detainments are the latest in a series of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity reported in the Bay Area in recent weeks. Community organizers have responded by holding protests outside the courthouses during the ICE activity.
ICE agents at San Francisco Immigration Court were seen around 9:30 a.m. detaining a man. Video recorded by NBC Bay Area shows ICE agents in plainclothes wearing masks taking the man into an unmarked vehicle parked outside the courthouse.
About 30 minutes later a group of ICE agents were seen detaining another man and taking him into an unmarked vehicle.
At around 10:30 a.m., a third man was seen detained by agents and taken into an unmarked van. The man told an NBC Bay Area reporter he was from Guatemala.
There have been at least four people detained in Tuesday’s ICE activity at the courthouse.

NBC Bay Area has learned at least four people were also detained by federal agents at a Concord immigration courthouse.
Video recorded by a witness and shared to NBC Bay Area shows agents placing a detained man into an unmarked van.
Attorney said most of the people detained were asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, the ICE activity prompted more protests outside the San Francisco and Concord courthouses.
In San Francisco, hundreds of people gathered outside the courthouse to protest the action and formed a picket line at the entrances of the building.
Similar protests have been held in past days across the state, including several that took place Monday in San Francisco and San Jose.

A judge said new hearing notices will be given to those who were waiting.

ICE has arrested people in recent weeks in San Jose, San Francisco and Concord.
Immigration attorneys said Tuesday’s detentions were under similar circumstances to the recent ICE activity. The attorneys claim people showed up for what has traditionally been a routine hearing before a judge, but are instead taken into custody by agents in the waiting room.
The agency also made the most immigrant arrests in a single day in its history last Tuesday, detaining more than 2,200 people, NBC News reports citing a source familiar with the arrests and an ICE spokesperson who confirmed the numbers.
