New York designer found dead on boat at Montauk Yacht Club

The woman found dead on a docked boat at a ritzy Hamptons yacht club has been identified as 33-year-old local designer Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra.

Nolan-O’Slatarra was found dead at the Montauk Yacht Club in Long Island, New York, on Tuesday after a man called 911 around midnight to report an “unconscious” woman on a boat, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release. Good Samaritans attempted to perform CPR, but she was pronounced dead by first responders.

A preliminary investigation and examination were inconclusive regarding her cause of death, authorities said.

Suffolk County Police said homicide detectives are investigating the death.

Nolan-O’Slatarra, who lived in Manhattan, was the founder of the clothing brand East x East, according to her social media. She was also the director of operations for K IV Capital Management in New York. Neither company returned a request for comment on Wednesday.

In an interview last year with the Irish Independent, Nolan-O’Slatarra talked about leaving home in Ireland to follow her ambitions.

“Carlow is a small town. I was the small town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams,” she said. “I always knew I wanted to be successful, that I was money-driven, business-driven — and that fashion is a tough industry and it would be a slow road.”

According to the newspaper, she studied commerce at the University College Dublin and graduated with a master’s degree in digital marketing from Smurfit Business School.

Montauk Yacht Club spans 16 acres on Lake Montauk. A spokesperson said the club was “saddened to learn of the incident that took place” and is cooperating with law enforcement.
