The 65-year-old was holidaying in Pahalgam together with his spouse Sheela, daughter Arathi R Menon and her eight-year-old twin sons Kedar and Drupad.

“We had been on a trek, watching folks zip-lining, bungee leaping, and dressing in conventional Kashmiri apparel after we first heard a distant sound. Initially, we didn’t realise it was a gunshot,” Menon says.

“Then we heard one other gunshot clearly. I noticed somebody taking pictures into the air and informed my father it was a terror assault, instructing everybody to lie down. We crawled by way of a fence to flee,” she mentioned.

Amidst the panic that ensued, Menon says the household was approached by a person who shot her father level clean. “He died immediately.”

“Then he turned to me and hit me on the top together with his gun after making certain my dad was useless. I used to be holding my father’s physique tightly and crying as I knew he was useless. My youngsters started to scream. The gunman then left us there and went away,” she mentioned.

“My Kashmiri drivers, Musafir and Sameer, helped me by way of the ordeal as my brothers would have. They stayed with me till 3am on the mortuary.”
