Politics latest: Farage attacked over social media ad | Politics News

The Liberal Democrats have called on Kemi Badenoch not to allow Rupert Lowe to join the Conservatives.

Lowe, the former Reform MP turned Nigel Farage nemesis, has reportedly been in talks to join the Tories, according to Politics Home.

It reports that Lowe, who had a police investigation over claims of threatening behaviour dropped this month, met with Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, last Thursday.

It’s not the first time the pair have met, but sources close to Jenrick denied to Politics Home he was seeking a defection.

When Sky News spoke to Lowe earlier this month, he said he was undecided on his future, and suggested he may form his own party.

Responding to all that, the Lib Dems say Badenoch “needs to urgently confirm” Lowe won’t be allowed to join the Tories.

Daisy Cooper said: “Anything less would show that the Conservatives have moved even further to the extremes.”

The deputy leader added “this surely also has to be the last straw for Robert Jenrick’s underhand leadership campaign”.

Several weeks ago, it was rumoured the shadow justice secretary was testing the waters for a potential run against Badenoch.

Cooper concluded: “Badenoch needs to sack him or accept she is too weak to control her own front bench.”

Of course, the Conservatives would deny Lowe is looking to join them, while Badenoch has repeatedly backed Jenrick and said he is doing a very good job in his brief.
