Crowds are streaming in on either side of the sq., in calm and orderly
queues to see Pope Francis mendacity in state within the basilica.
Previously few hours the entire space
across the Vatican has begun to really feel far busier, with elevated safety and
checkpoints across the sq. and a heavy police presence.
Amongst these we have spoken to are a mix of vacationers in Rome
already, and pilgrims who’ve travelled right here particularly – Catholics from
around the globe together with teams from the UK, the US and Zimbabwe.
They’ve
informed us they really feel it is their responsibility to be right here, and that it wasn’t tough to
discover flights to journey over.
There are monks and nuns and different individuals of all
ages, together with some with younger youngsters. On the fringe of the sq., the media
circus continues to develop – sometimes a cardinal will stroll by, chased
by a scrum of cameras and journalists on the lookout for remark forward of the conclave.
From the rooftop of a close-by convent the place we’re broadcasting
from, we are able to see the queue snaking across the sides of the sq..
For
these in it, there is a palpable sense of unity as they wait to pay their
respects to Pope Francis.
