Prince Edward is travelling from the UK to Canada today as part of a week-long tour that will take him across three major cities, just a month after King Charles’s own landmark visit to the North American nation.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s seven-day visit, confirmed by Buckingham Palace, runs from June 25 to July 2, 2025.

The 61-year-old royal will carry out engagements in Prince Edward Island, Toronto and Ottawa during his stay in the Commonwealth nation.

His itinerary includes military commemorations, meetings with First Nations communities and participation in Canada Day festivities.

This marks the Duke’s first return to Canada since April 2023, and follows a short time after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s visit, where the monarch spoke at the opening of parliament in Ottawa.

The Duke will attend celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of The Prince Edward Island Regiment, where he has served as Colonel-in-Chief since 2005.

The commemorations will include a Freedom of the City parade.

His military engagements extend to Toronto, where he will visit the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, another unit where he serves as Colonel-in-Chief.

The Duke will also tour the naval reserve unit HMCS York and CFB Trenton air base.

These military visits form a significant part of his Canadian itinerary, reflecting his longstanding connections to the country’s armed forces.

During his time on Prince Edward Island, the Duke will visit the Abegweit First Nation and participate in an education forum with representatives from all four Atlantic provinces.

He will also meet with youth organisations on the island.

In Toronto, Prince Edward will engage with community leaders and emerging youth leaders whilst recognising the service of public sector organisations, including the Toronto Police Service’s Marine Unit and Emergency Task Force.

He will attend a service at Christ Church, His Majesty’s Chapel Royal of the Mohawk, the first Protestant church in Upper Canada and Ontario’s oldest surviving church.

The Duke will participate in Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa on July 1.

In Ottawa, the Duke will visit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in his capacity as Honorary Deputy Commissioner.

He will also celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which has been operating in Canada since 1963 and equips young people across the country to reach their full potential.

Prince Edward last visited Canada in April 2023, when he travelled to Toronto and Vancouver.

His current tour comes just weeks after he represented the Royal Family at the inaugural mass of Pope Leo.

The visit follows King Charles’s recent trip to Canada, where he became only the second royal to address parliament as head of state after Queen Elizabeth II.
