Recovering today from last night’s storm, tracking a calmer and drier weekend ahead

Wow, what a storm! Yuma got hit by an insane thunderstorm last night after 8 p.m. Today, locals and businesses are recovering from all the damage. Take a look at the recap from the storm with the latest stats and details.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) – Last night’s severe thunderstorm that hit Yuma, brought major impacts. There was high winds, dust, lightning, heavy rain, and flooding, which led to thousands of people out of power and many trees down. Take a look at some photos from the storm that was sent in from our viewers.

Before we got hit with the rain, we had a huge dust storm sweep through bringing very strong winds. The highest wind speed recorded in Yuma was 44 MPH, and the highest gusts was 66 MPH with winds coming from the east.

After looking on the National Weather Service Weather and Hazards Viewer, here are the rain totals that were recorded for some areas acorss Yuma County. You can see some areas got over an inch of rain.

Heading into the weekend, thankfully, we get a break from the active weather, but there are still small rain chances in the area at least through Saturday, but it’s looking very low.

Unfortunately, we are going to stay very humid and sticky throughout the weekend with dew points in the 70s. It will be feeling hotter than what it acutally is, so prepare for a hot and humid weekend.

Some good news, we temperatures will trend slightly below average with lots of sunshine through the weekend. Don’t forget the full moon will peak in our skies on Sunday.
