Taylor Swift Shared 22-Song Playlist After Announcing New Album: What Does It Mean?

Featured3 days ago5 Views

Moments after Taylor Swift announced the title of her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” on Tuesday, billboards began popping up with a link to a new playlist curated by Swift herself.

The link splashed on the big screens directed Spotify users to a playlist titled, “And, baby, that’s show business for you,” which features 22 of Swift’s songs with a one hour, 22 minute runtime.

The playlist begins with her hit song “22,” and has songs from her albums “Red,” “1989” and “Reputation.” Swifties online were quick to point out that all 22 tracks were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, leading to theories that the duo may be involved with her upcoming album.

Fans also noticed that songs produced by Jack Antonoff, who has production credits on seven of Swift’s most recent records, were notably absent from the playlist.

Swift’s team has not confirmed any details about the record, besides the name, which Swift announced herself in a clip posted on Aug. 12 by her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.

“I wanted to show you something,” she says in the clip, sitting next to Kelce and talking to his older brother and “New Heights” co-host, Jason Kelce.

“What do we got?” Jason Kelce asks as she pulls out a briefcase, emblazoned with an orange “T.S.” on it.

“This is my brand new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’” Swift says, as Jason Kelce starts screaming.

Swift did not announce a release date for the record, and the cover art was blurred in the clip, though fans wanting to preorder the record on her website saw the vinyl, cassette and CD versions are set to ship before Oct. 13.

The website then warned, “This is not the release date, official release date to be announced.”

The news came after the “New Heights” podcast teased that the Aug. 13 episode would have a guest, sending fans into a frenzy when the silhouette looked a lot like Swift. Hours later, the account confirmed Swift would be making a guest appearance.

Then, an orange countdown appeared on Swift’s website that read: “EXPIRES AUGUST 12 AT 12:12 A.M.”

The clip announcing the name of her 12th studio album appeared online at 12:12 a.m. ET.

The full “New Heights” podcast episode is set to drop at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
